How will you use your Power?

Have you ever thought about how powerful your mind really is? It is, by far, one of the most powerful tools that you possess. Think about it; have you ever felt chilled around the time of this pandemic or after you’ve been exposed to somebody who is sick and then gone to the bathroom to take your temperature? The thermometer could read clear five times out of six and if the sixth one remotely looks like a temperature, you believe it. All of a sudden, you start to feel aches and pains or feel nauseated. As your mind runs away with the thought that you might be catching what you have been exposed to , it may go into hyper drive while imagining the worst case scenario. You could take your temperature 10 minutes later and the thermometer may read completely normal and you’ll still question that one abnormal result out of six. Or maybe something more subtle; for instance, when you start your day waking up late and you stub your toe getting out of bed. If the first thought that goes to your head is"This is going to be an awful day" or "I am having such a bad day," then chances are you’re going to get in your car, spill your coffee, get a speeding ticket and not be able to find a parking spot when you get to work. The thought of the bad day just became a reality because you thought about it. The mind is so powerful.

Think about what could happen if you use those powers for good. Have you ever tried guided imagery? If you have you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about and if you haven’t what are you waiting for? During guided imagery you can feel things so vividly on your skin, you can see things so detailed in your sights and you can hear the sounds as if they’re right next to you; you may even be able to feel the joy or sorrow that surrounds the imagery so strongly that you open your eyes and still feel that emotion. Some people even experience this same phenomenon while watching a sad TV show; they began crying and after the TV show can’t figure out why they are still sad.

The mind is such a powerful tool. Imagine what would happen if we put out good and kindness in our thoughts. Meditation is a great way to learn to train your brain and focus your thoughts. Meditation is about recognizing your thoughts as something separate from yourself as if you were viewing them from an outsider's perspective and choosing whether or not you want to take on the emotions associated with them. Many individuals associate meditation as sitting in a cross-legged position on the floor, hands in the shape of an 'O,' humming as they sit. Meditation does not always look the same; it can be sitting, it can be movement it can be quiet, it can be vivid, it can be whatever you make it to be. I encourage you to explore meditation and what types of meditation might work for you because at the end of the day everyone should be able to produce the types of thoughts that they want to receive.
